Oil Change:
This article describes how to change the oil and oil filter on a Yamaha F200.
I change the oil and filter in January, then I change just the oil again in July.
All parts were purchased from my friend Andy at Shipyard Island Marine Engine Parts.
I run the engine for 10 to 15 minutes to get her good and warm. This helps release all of the oil and deposits. I run mine with a set of dual feed muffs. NEVER use the flushing connector to run the engine!
Be careful with this high dollar cowling!!
There are three latches that hold the cowling down. One on each side and one in the front.
The dipstick is located on the left side looking back at the engine from the helm.
This is the Tempo Oil Extractor that Andy used to sell. He now carries the larger model.
This is the Yamaha adapter for the pump.
Remove the adapter from hose by pressing on the slip ring and install it on the dipstick tube. I used a wrench to tighten past hand tight, but not much.
Insert the hose back into the fitting.
Start pumping, and like MAGIC, the oil comes a flying. Very easy! Once it seemed like all the oil was gone, I tilted the engine up and down several times and then used the smallest hose in the kit and slid it all the way down the dip stick tube to remove the last 1/2 quart. No need to remove the drain plug.
There is one bolt that secures the oil filter cover.
I used an oil filter wrench to remove the filter. Tilt the engine all the way up and slide a 1 gallon zip lock bag over the filter and filter base to catch any remaining oil and the filter itself.
New filter. Be sure to rub some oil on the rubber seal.
I used my oil filter wrench again to snug up the new filter. I could not get my hand on it well enough to tighten it. Do not over-tighten!!
Remove the oil fill cap on top of the motor.
Pour in the liquid gold!
Tilt the engine until it is level and crank the engine. Let it idle for a minute or so, then shut it off and check the oil level.
Carefully reinstall the cowling.
Off to the recycling center!
