I'm onboard for Woody Wax too for PROTECTING the decks and aluminum, but if that aluminum is really oxidized, You're probably going to have to clean it with something else first.

I've seen some advertised where the camera looked like a fish. That CAN'T be a good idea. It would be a shame to have your camera eaten!

Since BOTH engines are not being affected, I guess it's safe to try the brake cleaner. I'd spray some corrosion blocker on it afterwards too.
