I just bought this pretty expensive map and it says "closed contour depicting depression. What does that mean? _________________ "Reelaxin"

Closed Contour means a slope. In your case (depicting depression) it means a drop off. The closer the lines are, the faster it drops off. If they are wide, it means a gentle slope.
Look at a chart around the Same Ole and you will get an excellent example. Garmin has this on their newer units...... |

Couldn't this be the same, just looking at it from the opposite side of the spectrum?
I mean instead of looking at it as closer lines get deeper faster, How about they get shallower faster?
What about a canyon? You need at least four lines to indicate the depth of one. Two for the upper shelf and two for the bottom. If the lines just show a drop-off, there would be no bottom to the ocean. _________________ Make something idiot proof, and they build a better idiot |

| an outcrop in the normal sense is when there's a rock stuck in the ground. The exposed upper portion is the 'outcrop'. I imagine that correlates to underwater structure, but it'd have to be a damn big rock for that to hold. |

They ain't made a fishing chart worth a crap in my opinion!!
Maps Unique is OK, but will only get you close.
Mark your own spots, and then you will have something.

| Whether the chart is worth a crap or not, someone new needs to know were to start. Maps unique will put you in the right area and then you just start looking. |
