Was wandering if anyone could add any insight to a problem I'm having with a Volvo Penta TMD 40 Diesel (rebuilt in 2000 with 280 hrs on her). Just at the beginnining of the season she started cutting out after running for 10-15 minutes. I have changed the Racors, and secondary filters and bled the lines. When she cuts out ...if underway...will lose RPM and giving more throttle won't increase the RPM's. After running a few minutes at decreased RPM's she will just shut off. When the engine does cut out...the racor fuel filters are full , but venting the lines at the fine fuel filter must be done with the small fuel hand pump attached there quite a few times until I get fuel without air pushed out the top of the fine fuel filter.
After I pump the hand fuel pump until fuel with no air come out the top of the fine fuel filter, the enginge will usually start and run....but length of time it will then run is variable....before same things happens. My thinking is it must be a problem in the line from the racor up to the hand pump before the fine fuel filter or can there be a problem with the small hand pump (fuel pump) . I'm not sure if this little pump serves any purpose while the engine is running or if it's just a chamber for venting the line up to the fine fuel filter when needed by hand. My other thought is that it could be an injector or fuel pump problem .but if the fine fuel filter is empty...when she cuts out I'm thinking the engine must be burning everything out of the fuel pump and fine filter , and then getting lack fuel/too much air between the racor and the litttle hand pump. Any help would be appreciated. At least if I could diagnose the problem myself...may save some money with the Diesel mechanic if needed. Also any good Diesel mechanic names would be appreciated... I'm at Carolina Beach in a slip....but want to be Fishin!

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Chris
