Called Joe thursday-afternoon to find out what time he wanted me to be at the dock friday-morning to help him catch some groupers. (with him you don't go FISHING, you go CATCHING!!)
His answer: how about around midnite? Shocked Shocked I should have thought
about it a little more but hell ya!!! Lets do an overnighter!! Why not??
(I worked a 12hr day and still had to drive 260m to get there)
Needless to say I was tired BEFORE we left the dock but it had been too long,
the ponytail was more then happy to let me off the hook and get me out of the house.

Passed the NRI seabouy at 12:30am and ran 50m southE, dropped anchor around 3am and started dropping. It was a pitch-black nite with no moon and the critters seem to be in bed cause we did not get a bite (few pinkies)
Joe decided to catch a nap and wait till daybreak while I kept dropping and let out some lite-lines hoping to get some action on top. It was not happening so took a power-nap and just by the time I got to dreamland the yammi cranked up and looking over the gunnel I could see horizon, time to go catching.

First few stops produced some reds and as soon the sun showed it was ON!!!

Highlight for me was a 64lb Cobia wich gave me hell but met the steel after a short struggle. Biggest grouper in the box went 30lbs AFTER it had spit out 3lbs of juvenile bee-liners.

Fished hard till 14:30 and got back at the dock by 5.
Ended up with 32 groupers (reds, scamps and a few strawberries) some bee-liners,triggers,cobia and a couple of AJ's

This was a commercial trip but for me it's just like recreational fishing except we don't have to worry about quantity

Guys(and gals), if you ever feel the need (or dream about) to CATCH BIG FAT GROUPERS get a few buddies together and call JOE!!! (Rough and Ready charters)

Like he advertises HE WILL GET YOU ON THE FISH!! The rest is up to you!

Great Job Jan and Joe,

Glad to see the men in the Black Suits (COBIA) are starting to show up. Thats a smoker you caught. I have to make myself take them to the fish house, cause I love to eat em. Wink

Nice catch guys. Rough and Ready, what time of year is the best time to charter for grouper. I am trying to get a few guys together so we can fill the freezer with some fat grouper steaks.

May, June or July for offshore groupers
Aug, sept to Nov for gags inshore.
Better have a big freezer.
