Hi Folks,
Fishing is doing well. The recent northern winds have brought a nice cool reprieve from the summer heat and in most cases the fish haven't minded at all. The good news is the finger mullet have finally shown up and some nice flounder have started biting.
Now here's my report:
Inshore: Red drum fishing is very good now. Fish the falling tide in the ICW, the inlets and the creeks. Best baits are mullet and menhaden, dead or alive. Best rig is a carolina rig. Nice flounder are biting near the inlets, the cut and the river. Smaller flounder can be found just about anywhere good structure is present to hold baitfish.
Near shore: In close the shark bite has been outstanding with an occasional silver king (aka tarpon) hitting. Best baits are large size menhaden. Spanish mackerel have been spotty all year; real good one day and then hard to find the next. More nice flounder are available at the near shore reefs and they favor larger poagies.
Offshore: Up until the recent north winds the 10-12 mile areas were on fire with kings, mahi and sails. the north winds have cooled thngs down a bit, but this time of year the south winds will soon return and so should the fish. For now I would try the 23 and WR 4 or other spots in the 20-25 areas.
Gulfstream: No Reports.
As long as our weather patterns do not change too drastically, look for all around fishing to be good in some spots and on fire in others. It's finding the others that makes the difference.
LET'S GO FISHING !!!
