After ck'ing the offshore buoy's for 2hrs yesterday-morning, Joe decided to stay in-shore and see if we could find some gags.
Headed out late (8am) and made our first drops 12m out in 60+ft .
They were not cooperating very well.
It seemed like Fred and Wilma grouper were having some fun in their holes while Pebbles and Bambam were playing hide and seek.
Don't ask me where SEDAR is getting their research-info from and are trying to convince us that the gag's are becoming an endangered species.
Out off 40+ we reeled up ONLY 8 keepers!! the rest all juveniles.
(something or somebody seemed to reproduce pretty darn well)
Oh well, can't always fill the boxes and this taught me what a difference it can make in a 30nm stretch
OHH, I tried waterskiing but don't ask me were the rollin swells were. _________________
They need to stop getting there data behind the desk.
And from the wrong time of the year.
Also need to get divers input.
Groupers are not going to be on the same places at the
same time every year. They have tails and swim.
They also said there is a 40% mortality rate on throwbacks.
Over 90% of my throwbacks live. The only time they die is when
the hook hits a vital organ or blood supply.
I think the recreational limit & size limits imposed over the past
years are making a big differance. The commercial pressure
isn't near what it use to be.I've heard about some new regs that
are going to go in a completely different direction then the old
rules were going.Being both commercial & recreational fishing
vessel.
I'm sure the recreational fishing is going to get the shaft.
As a commercial fisherman I'm not going to be happy with
new rules that undermind the direction we were headed in.
I have plenty of thoughts on this topic and will continue to express
them. _________________ http://sneadsferrycharterfishing.com/
what can we ( as the general public ) do about this topic as it stands now i can go out and get only 2 gags per trip thats ok 2 good gags is worth the gas expence that i will spend, if they reduce it to only 1 it will not be worth the trip unless u load your boat with extra people we need people like joe and other honest comm. guys to go bat for us and give their input on the data, they are out there day in and day out

Hey don't complain Jan, I went with Joe the day before and only kept 5 keepers.
And I drove all night from Hilton head with no sleep to take the same butt kickin'. _________________ Capt. John Mallette

NO COMPLAINTS HERE!!
Just a honest report, and I know the feeling; drivin all nite and get your ass kicked................. but hey, as soon land is out off sight we are in our element.
Lookin forward to be fishing (catching ) with ya Capt. one day. _________________
In 2 days fishing inshore we threw back over 80 groupers in the
17 to 24 inch range back into the ocean. One floated
But The rest lived .
Some of there bellys were so full, I don't know why they were still eating.
Overall the fish looked very healthy & well feed. _________________ http://sneadsferrycharterfishing.com/

Capt Joe, I read the whole darn thing earlier today, and I'm still kinda clueless. I know I can pm or call ya, but I think this should be open to the public, and us "newbies" and "rookies" would like to know the impact of all this to us recreational guys.
Is there a way you can put all of this in plain English and what the impact might be to the recreational fisherman?
Thanks,

what it sounds like to me is that (on the gags) us rec fishermen would only be allowed 1 gag 24" or greater ( or 2 of 36" or greater would work) a 50% decrease in the allowable recreational catch and a 25% decrease in the commercial catch. _________________ Reel "Workman"ship, Century 3200WA <~~ FOR SALE pm me for info
Are they going to change the regs on red grouper? Going fishing for one gag is pretty pathetic. I wonder how much that meat would cost per pound? May as well start skipping the inshore ledges.
