Well the wahoo fishing doesn't get any better than it is right now and plenty of sails in the mix.
Thursday and Saturday pretty much the same. Seas 3-4, just right but a very slow morning with a few stinkys. Was hard to keep the crew interested kept telling them be patient we will find them. Sure enough the last hour and a half it went off. Saturday a sail comes in on the lt short, I drop, got him on. Get him in the chair, line is ripping. I trip the planer and am cranking it in and it gets hit by a stud hoo. Someone come here and crank in this fish, chaos commences. With all the excitement the man in the chair stops cranking to watch the show and the dog takes off the collar. Get the hoo in the box, set the spread. Little bit later and several more pull-offs and a couple more hoos in the box, I got him on. Shane hooks a dog on the bridge pole. He is a lefty and the line by now is stretched out about 400 yds. You know where I'm going with this, about half way in the guys cranking arm starts to lock up and he isn't looking too good. With a lot of encouragement from his buddies we brought the fish boat side for pics and the release. We ended both days with 5 hoos 1 sail sat and a lot of pull-offs the last hour and a half.
Sunday, Shane talks to the crew, 3 from over seas and 3 locals. Its going to be rough, sure you want to go. YES the leader of the group says. Turn the lines loose and off we go. Nice 25 knt breeze out of the NE and a smooth ride to the rock. The seas are 8-10 ft and 2 guys sick already. I had told them not to expect too much early our best bite has been at the end of the day. Two other boats next to us picking away at the hoos and we can't get get a nibble. Change this change that and still can't make it work. I'm sure you all have had days like that, some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you. Well right on schedule, 2 hrs left it starts. In one pass 3 bites 2 hoos in the box. Next pass several pull-offs and another hoo in the box. Everyone is pulling off lots of these hoos, just can't keep them buttoned up. Anyway, no bills this day, finished out the day again with 5 hoos, and a happy crew.
Monday, still a little breezy, Shane warns the crew and we're off. SE wind, I go up to talk to Shane, you know what bites on a S Easter??? But our best day this year was on one, we'll see. I had given the report to the crew on the last 3 days, slow morning and furious last 2 hours. Throttles back about a mile from where we finished the day before. Seas just right, 4-6 capping with a little roll. Shane hollers down we are just about there when it starts. Double header hoos. Okey Doke, this is just right. It was pretty much non-stop till about 10:00. Six hoos in the box with way too many pull-offs, not anglers fault just didn't stick. It slowed for about an hour and a half then back on again. I don't know how many times in the last 4 days I have had the planer ripped out of my hand while clipping it in the bridle, what a rush. One time I had just got the back clip on when one snatched it so hard it ripped it right out of my hand and started screaming, thankfully I had a little drag on him so it didn't backlash. Had several hit after I trip the planer on the way up or when I am cranking it in, and yes you can do a drop back with the planer. During all this Shane hollers down, billfish lt short, I'm on it, drop. Rt short Rt short, s*&t. Jump on it and dump, not today, about a 500lb blue one, I never got to see it. Shane said he had her head out of the water and was getting it, darn it, oh well. Back to killing. finished the day with 11 25-35lb hoos, 1 king and a bailer. The hoos are getting bigger over the last week. This fishing reminds me of 4 yrs ago in Oct when the fleet was putting 16 slob hoos in the box by 11:00 and headed to the barn. Very very happy crew today. It's HOOterville out there now folks. _________________ FISHIN DAYS SPORT FISHING CHARTERS

Here is my side of the story. I believe under Sunday Rick said 25 knot breeze & a smooth ride to the rock well attached is a couple of picks of the smooth ride! I must say it was alot better ride than I expected I still made 20 knots or better on the way home in this slop. Oh he must have forgoten to tell about the one squall we went through with the 7 waterspouts in 5 minutes. We came out of the back of the first squall & I saw the water start to rise in front of us & had the same thing happening on each side at the same time I screamed at Rick & told him to get the Planer up & he said why I then told him to take a peek beside of us & then the scrambling started, when the Planer tripped I was on the move trying to get out of the way as I was doing so I warned the other boat behind me to watch out when some voice came over the radio & said be sure to get some pictures which turns out to be Capt. Dave on the Continental Shelf headboat I am not even going to say what I told him needless to say I have no pics but the bridge is still connected to the Fight-N-Lady. _________________ Capt. Shane
