Ya man...I'm here....just 100% overloaded at the moment.
Here is the deal. You have to have this "Card" by Sept 28, 08. I can take as long as 90 days to get it. If you don't get it....you don't run.
Follow the link in this thread....preregister. Fill out the forms. Name, Age, Height, Hair Color..BLA BLA BLA.
Schedule an appoinment at you local center. Wilmington and Morehead each have one. They are all listed on that site.
You go in for the appointment....fill out some more paper work...they scan your documents....verify who you are and take your fingerprints.
That's it. Then you wait to hear. Finding the one here is Wilmington is a PAIN! It is ina small building across the street from the Wilco. Get there directions drive to where it says....and remember Dave said Small Building across the street from the Wilco and you will find it.

I think I read somewhere that if you'd recently renewed your license, then they would accept the background check from the renewal and there would be a small discount... Is that right? ...... I agree that this is simple BS, and is ripping thousands of captains off for another $100+ dollars and not charging joe public anything. Guess thats what we get for getting on thier captive list.. I'm with Garry....but I did get the permit to pee off my lower deck,,, just not the upper.

What documentation is required for a TWIC?
TWIC applicants are required to provide identity documents to TSA to complete the enrollment process. There are two lists of identity verification documents and applicants are required to furnish either one identity document from List A or two documents from List B with one of the two being a government-issued photo ID.
FPT members,
The TWIC is real. Practically everyone in the Marine industry will have one. The deadline date was extended til Feb 2009 so do not panic. I will tell you I just picked mine up two weeks ago and it took 3 months so be patient.
Make sure you pre-register online and print out the document after you schedule your appt. all is done on line. Bring cash or credit card that is all that they take. The price depends on when your documents expire, they will extend the TWIC to match your doucuments. It could be as much as $130, I think mine was $105. It does not take long at the office about 15 20 minutes.
Good luck email me if you have any questions and I will help you out the best I can.

Got mine through the Wilmington satellite office on Oleander.
Pre-registered and made appointment on-line 5 weeks ago. Picked it up a week ago.
They seem to be fairly efficient there. Friendly too as you pay $100+. _________________ No Excuses Fishing Charters

I got wind of it a week ago, I believe it is on the TWIC web site. As many can see by going through the process there are some cliches, they are trying to work it out, just be patient and keep checking the site to see if your card has arrived, you may not get an email from them, I received an automated call a week after I picked it up stating my card was ready for pick up. I do not see at anytime that one of us will be required to show it (charter guys), the card is mainly for tow, osv, tankers.. etc that enter in ports and have to go through security screenings. As someone mentioned early, it is everyone from the garbage collector to the Port Director has to have one. It is a lot of people, millions. I just hope the money goes to good use.
If anyone needs any help just send me an email and I will help the best I can. _________________ Captain Jamey Copeland
