Offshore Fishing Reports - Storage of Reels - I currently store my rods and reels in a storage building that has ventilation but no ac or heat. Will the humidity get in my reels and cause rust? Should they be stored inside?

OK guys I hate to sound so dumb as I have used downriggers many times before. But I have never rigged one for my self. I have Cannon downriggers with swivel bases. My question is about the weights and release clips.

The weights have an eyelet at the top for the clip from the downrigger. Do I need a release clip above the weight on the downrigger line or do I attach a release to the eyelet on the back of the weight? I have looked at the instructions on this site and several others and I still can't quite figure out what kind of release mechanics I need. Also what type of releases do you guys like, Cannon type or Blacks type?

Thanks for the help.

I use a black's down rigger clip between the snap on the down rigger line and the cannon ball i make my own release hardware with a blacks clip I use 200lb mono and a 150 lb snap to attach to the ball and a 150 lb swivel on top to attach to the down rigger line i make my mono so when I reel up the downrigger ball it is a couple of inches out of the water , so it will be out of the way when fighting a fish
also if you need down rigger balls I make & sell an awesome 8 lb ball

Thanks for the help Back-Lash. The way you rig is the way I think I have seen before. I think I'll probably do the same. I may be interested in getting a couple of weights from you. What do you charge?
