I just "acquired" a bunch of tackle from a friend. Included in the lot was the rig shown in the attached picture. He says that he rigged these to use for Wahoo when they were really line shy. I have never rigged a ballyhoo on a two hook rig like this. Can anyone offer a "how to" on doing it?

That is a strip bait rig made for King Mac fishing. Most commonly used in a commercial mackeral fishing spread in addition to Drone spoons.

Thanks for the info! Hmmm....he told me that it was for wahoo. Go figure. I have never used strip baits for anything before. What do people like to use? Just whatever you can catch? I assume that you just hook the front hook to the strip and then stick the trailer hook in where ever it lands right?

Thanks for answering a newbie's question. This is a new tactic for me! A nice one to have in the arsenal though.

Can be used as a ballyhoo rig as well. I rig double hook ballyhoo on my deep baits to prevent short strikes. I use the exact same rig. I'll try and post pics and a how-to asap.

Thanks Capt. John! This makes sense with what my friend told me. Can't wait to see your pictures!

That will be Great CPT John. I buy the two hook rigs to un off of my downrigger. I have never been able to duplicate it without tearing up the ballyhoo.

Ok here goes, first of all I just threw this together at a moments notice this afternoon so this is not my exact rig, but very close. The ballyhoo pictured hasn't been prepped, brined, etc.

1. You take your two hook ballyhoo rig and detach the two hooks by turning the back hook so the barb of the front hook slides out where the trailer hooks eye bends to the shaft.

2. Now you take the trailer hook and run through the ballyhoo so it comes out at the tail. Make sure this is done where the hook comes out dead center of the bait.

3. Next, you rig the front hook just like a single hook rig. Make sure the point of the front hook comes out just in front of the eye of the back hook. Once it's rigged up, then you connect the two hooks by bending the bait carefully and connect the hooks the exact opposite of how you took them apart. now in the pic,the back hook is a little smaller than the front. That's why the hooks are not completely even. You want to make sure you use the same size hooks and they fit on the bait's belly evenly. This was all I had at the moment. I apologize again. But I hope you get the idea. That makes a two hook ballyhoo. Great for running deep and WWB to prevent short strikes.

That's exactly how I rig, it will catch almost anything that hits the bait.

if you turn the 2 hooks opposite of each other they will work better on a ballyhoo they slide into the mouth of the ballyhoo & come out the gill plate , the back hook will be embedded in the back of the hoo

We use *Widgets* down here - weighted jig head skirted & depending on what bait you're using 3 hooks instead of 2.

Nice how-to above. Smile
