From listenening to VHF:

At approximately 8:45 PM on 09-11. Captain of an approximately 60' long fishing vessel named Lukystar? called the US Coast Guard by radio saying he was aground in the inlet "between the buoys" in Lockwoods folly entrance.

The Coast Guard dispatched a cutter and a small rescue boat to the scene to the location in order to attempt freeing the boat. The captain of the commercial vessel originally stated that the boat had taken water via breakers and he was afraid the boat would be sunk. After arrival at the scene, the commercial vessel was eventually able to get free on it's own, likely due to rising tide.

At last radio message the Coast Guard was to meet the vessel inside in the ICW to review the situation and the boat's condition.

Just an FYI about the condition of the inlet.

Maybe this will get some more attention about getting a better maintenance plan together for this channel?

The Coast Guard will probally just pull the bouys out like they did before!

Looks to me as if the 60' commercial boat should use an inlet more suited to 60' commercial boats ...

FYI, the Lucky Star is a 35' commercial snapper boat. He doesn't draw much more water than a large center console.

the bigwigs with the power could fix the inlet but they are to busy padding the special intrest groups pockets and their own..they mainly address the big contributers wants..not the little people needs. there is plenty of money to fix it millions are given away each day.

I don't know where the coastie's got that she's a 60 ft'er. She is actually the smallest in star's fleet, with their largest being a 50. I was just wanting to let you know that she she is only a 35.

A friend of mine went out and took depth readings between the cans on Sunday. Going out there was plaenty of water up to the #6 buoy. After that there were breakers going all the way across and he was showing less than 2 ft. He turned around in his SKIFF and hit bottom! Something has to be done. Do not attempt the inlet antime near low tide. I came thru on Saturday around high tide both times and there was some water but not much.

I stuck a 24' center console between the buoys at that inlet two weeks ago. Like this guy I was stuck in the surf with breakers crashing the front of the boat with my kids on board....Trimmed the motors up and waited for a big wave then was able to free up with the wave's help. Had to wait 2 hours for the tide to rise enough to get back in though. Those buoys being out there beckon you even though it's not safe. They should take them down if they aren't going to keep it safe.
