does anyone have current info on the status of the inlet. is it marked, what kind of water depth. i use lwf but it's in bad shape don't wont to use it at this time

shallotte is in excellent shape. Yes it is marked, but the last 2 cans heading out are out of position. If you will stay withing 15 ft of these 2 cans on the east(holden beach) side, and then run the rest of them like normal, you will be fine. I haven't had less than 4 ft of water.

Thanks for that info Gary. I've been locked out of the Lockwood Inlet for a few weeks. Ive never ran the Shallotte but I may give it a try now. Beats running to Southport.

Does anyone know what shape Shallotte is in? It sounds like Lockwood is bad.

I plan to go to Holden for a few days after Easter, but I'd at least like to make it out!

Beware at low tide, bouys are missing and the one that is there is out of place. I read about 4' at MLT last weekend. Just watch the wave action and head for the dead spot. High tide, no problem, but watch your scope all the way out.

Yeah, it's pretty tricky at low tide - you have to approach way-way over to the Holden beach side at any tide.

Feeshinfanatic and I saw a small boat in ankle deep water late yesterday as we came in.

The little red buoy that was there on Monday seemed to be gone by Friday. It helped you get an idea of the angle, even though it wasn't exactly in the right place.

I can say definately that at low tide: the old marked route through Shalotte Inlet is no longer navigable for boats like my 28" CC.

It is now closed over completely at low tide on the Holden side between the bar and Holden.

I know I shot it on a new moon low on 8/02 at about 2:15PM. But I had to bust some sand and scrape some bottom to get back in.

I've run it many times on that exact same track without an issue!

Does anybody know if it has opened up on the Ocean Isle Beach side or if we can get the bouys moved there if it has???

I think the OIFC folks helped us on this with the NCWRC taking the initiative to get the existing bouys placed. I recall that the Corp had washed their hands of Shalotte since it was taken off of their "list" of the "navigable" inlets that they were "willing" to maintain.

I came through SI this past weekend. The bouys are all messed up, do not use them. One was even washed up on Holden Beach. Be careful not to use the "false" channel on the east (Holden beach) side.

I call it false because it looked like a way in but then it shallows to zip.

The real channel is about in the midde, no problem there although I did not try it at low tide.

Becareful until the bouys are set back in place. They were knocked around by TS Hanna.
