Just wanted to get an opinion on this. I have a 20' wellcraft with a 50 gallon tank and i/o 350 in it an get about 2.5 mpg. I was going to try going the gulf stream off of hatteras, so around 15-20 miles out I guess. I took it out last weekend and had some 4-5' + waves in the morning and went out about 10 miles or so and had no problem. Would I be retarded for trying to take it out there? I've never been to the stream so I'm not sure how the water conditions are out there. If anyone has aver been out there in a boat this size or have an opinion on this, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
WEATHER WEATHER WEATHER keep your eyes on the sky and listen to the forcast during the day. Make sure you have your saftey gear in order and a good radio with a handheld backup. Radios don't get very good recepton on the bottom of the ocean.

Been to Hatteras twice with my 21 footer, 75 gallon gas tank, and had a blast. Only problem was, I was there for two weeks, and the wind blew for all but 2 days, so it was pretty boring between blows. Went two years ago for 4 days, and never got further than the mouth of the inlet. But, 18 to 25 miles and you are in some of the bluest warmest water you will ever see. Rock pile is about 25 miles East South East.
Good luck, and watch the wind. _________________ Give a man a fish, and feed him for a day,

Me and my dad have a 20' Bertram with a 350 i/o. We fish the big rock out of Beaufort ( about a 90 mile round trip) on less than 50 gallons. Just pick your days and you'll be fine.

Out of Hatteras, go for it. Watch the wind !!!!. I fish a 23' CC with a 200 Johnson out of Morehead and a trip to the Rock is about 42 miles one way. Back at the marina usally 70-75 gals to fill back up. Of course the gas bill is always a little sweeter when there is fish in the box.
