Hello all!
Had a decent week of fishing this week, the wind cooperated one day at least!
Had a regular client Arthur out with his son-in-law Ron. We started out the day with some 8-10 lb. chopper blues at the Masonboro Jetty on Yozuri swimming plugs, silver sides did the best. About 8 am we worked our way out to the Liberty Ship and trolled around for about an hour, saw very little bait marks and no takers on the spread. Started bottom fishing with jigs and Fish Bites and had fun catching a mix of seabass to 14", some large grey snapper, a triggerfish and other assorted bottom dwellers. Put the trolling spread back out and caught a few nice 1-2 lb spanish on the ride in. A nice day on the water with a fun crew!
Fished the Fisherman's Post Inshore Challenge and had a fun day with my tournament crew of Seth and Nate. Started out at 5 am looking for some live bait, had some mud minnows already but wanted some mullet or peanut pogies. Looked in Bradley Creek, behind Masonboro Island, finally bit the bullet and ran down to the dredge hole about 7:30. Got to the dredge hole about 8 am, saw about a half a dozen boats looking around on the shoreline but pelicans diving right in front of us in the middle. Looked on the scope and it was covered in bait marks, Seth threw the net 3 times and we were gone leaving the same 6 boats still looking along the edges. Fished Snow's Cut for a few hours had a few bluefish bites and managed a 1.6 lb flounder. Fished a dock or 2 near the Cut then ran down to Fort Fisher and found a nice hole in the wall. Threw out a mud minnow on a popping cork, popped it twice put it in the holder turned around and Seth yelled out "Fish on" and saw the rod doubled over. Picked it up and caught a nice 1.9 lb. speckled trout. Caught a few more blues there but no more trout. Picked up and ran to the dredge dock to see if we could pick up a bigger flounder but that was not to be. Weighed in at 3:30 pm. Wound up 16th (only pays to 15th) with the flounder and not even close with the trout, 10th place was 3 lbs.! Oh well, a great tournament none the less, ran as well as always, will do again next year. Thanks again to The Fisherman's Post for running a fun tournament again!
