You sure picked the right time to buy a boat! With gas heading north of $4, there are lots on the market. I'd recommend a 19-21 ft Center Console. Or, if you are thinking about taking your family on the boat at times, you might want to go with a cuddy. I'll give you a great deal on a 23' Pursuit! Laughing

dont buy one, you will better off chartering a boat, that way you have no up-keep, no trailor issues, not having to buy a bigger truck, not having to store it, not having everyone and their brother wanting to go for free, and the #1 reason for not buying one youll will always wishing you would have bought bigger, or youll be always looking at boat shows. na na na youll love it.

I started out 3 yrs ago with a 22' Sea Pro CC. Great boat for nearshore fishing. Would routinely fish the AR's off Atlantic Beach and take her out 20-25 miles from Beaufort Inlet. Plenty of fishing there for kings/spanish/dolphin in summer/bottom fish, etc. Got a bad case of two foot-itis last year and moved up to a 24' walkaround w/twin 150's. Absolutely love it but of course I'm already thinking about my next move up. It is definitely an addiction. Once you get the salt in your veins, you're toast.

Towing from Winston will be a long haul. I did it 3 times from Greensboro and said the heck with that & got myself a storage spot in MHC. Now I keep the WA at a marina.

Whatever you decide, have fun. It is a blast!!

BOAT - Bring Out Another Thousand Very Happy

My 2 cents: Go with a Used boat, 20-23' Center Console

I thought I make a mistake when I bought my 20 cc trophy Bigger is better.A trip to the stream you need to plan on 75-to 100 gals of gas .Pulling that boat down more gas.Braking down on the highway.time and money. You can alway find some one to go to the stream. If you want kings mai you only need to go 20-to 30 out.think about what if plan on fishing for 80% of the time good luck

I just moved up from an 18 hydra skiff to a 21 deep v and already have the 2 foot bugg. But 21 is a good sive as far as fuel burn and trailering.

No doubt there is something to be said about owning your own boat. Pick where you go, what you do, how long you do it and even who you do it with.

I have had an 18' deep vee CC, 22' cuddy and a 44' charter boat. I now have a 24' bay boat.

My recommendations would be as follows:

#1 - join a local saltwater fishing club and come in interested to learn and meet new friends and fishing partners. you will learn more and fish more than just having your own boat. It may take some time, but it will happen.

Augment #1 with make-up charters - $250 or so plus tip and everything provided - plus the opportunity to learn from the pro's.

If you still decide to get your own ride, I would focus on skinning water fishing.

I live right up the road from you in K-vegas. The weatherman will be wrong at least half the time. Between schedules and weather your opportunities to get offshore in a 22' to 24' (about the most you would want to tow routinely) will be limited. But back water fishing gets you past the weather issue (usually). There is a whole world out there that has been tapped. Big drum late summer early fall, puppys about all year long, trout - all year long, spanish, kings, mahi (in the summer just off the beach a few miles), cobia, flounder, sharks, tarpon and the list goes on.

Leave the offshore to the charter crew and join them for a ride (or some new found friends).

That is just this man's opinion.

Good luck which ever way you decide to go!!!
