Looks like the planets have finally aligned and I'll be getting my boat shortly (23 ft. center console).

I live just outside of Raleigh, but will keep the boat down at the coast most of the time. Mulling over options of where to keep it, any advice appreciated. Both Morehead city and Wrightsville are about the same distance from my house. I'd like to spend half my time fishing bottom for Mr. Grouper and his friends, the other half trolling the stream or wherever I can find the Maki and Wahoo.

Which of these locations offers closer access to the kind of fishing I want to do? I've been out of Beaufort inlet, which is beautiful. How does Masonboro compare. Much difference in the seas out of either of these spots? Any other factors?

Thanks,
Joe

I have fished out of both for years. I guess it is which is more imoirtant to you.....

For Bottom fishing....There is not a better place on the East Coast than Carolina Beach. Mile for mile there is better bottom on the North Side of Frying Pan Shoals than anywhere.

For Trolling (Gulfstream)....Morehead City. The stram is closer and you have access to Shallote Hole, Bigrock and all the eddies to the north of Cape Lookout.

I AGREE WITH CAPT. DAVE STREAM MUCH CLOSER IN MOREHEAD PROBABLY 41MILES TO BIG ROCK PROBABLY 60+ MILES TO GET OUT TO SAME OLE FROM WB. ABOUT 20 MILES CLOSER ONE WAY IN MOREHEAD.

BUT MUCH BETTER BOTTOM FISHING DOWN SOUTH LIKE CAPT. DAVE SAID ON THE NORTH SIDE OF FRYING PAN SHOALS. SO PICK YOUR POISON. AND GOOD LUCK

Guys, thanks for all the info. I'm thinking to keep the boat near Wrightsville until mid-June or so, then move it up to Morehead.

How far out of Wrightsville do you need to go to get into some good grouper bottom fishing? I've never been to Frying Pan Tower, how far out is that and what kind of fishing is in that area?

Thanks,
Joe

20-50 m out will put you into all the structure you need. as Dave stated, mile for mile you cant beat it. Start at AR 386 and work out past WR4, plenty of bottom, plenty of fish. reds and gags will fill the coolers
