Bought my boat, pulled it with my Trailblazer. Regular tag because it is a SUV. Decided to upgrade to a 2006 crew cab Chevy 1500. Love it, get pulled over and weighed by NC State Troopers for training and pictures. Told I was overweight. Had to buy a new weighted tag. Going fishing this weekend and do not want a BIG $$$$$ ticket so just got back from buying my 12,000 weighted tag. Another $128.00. Can't tell me it is not revenue driven! I can pull a 15,000 lb camping trailer recreational vehicle, but not my 4,000 lb boat without paying the additional tax. I call BS

Shocked

Where were you pulled?
I have a weighted tag for my Yukon XL and am now hearing that I don't need one. Can I get a refund?

Between Wilmington and Wrightsville Boat Ramp. Don't know about refund, just don't renew. I was wondering the same thing if they change the law?

I have been told that at the UNCW meeting the HP present stated that SUV's are exempt from needing weighted tags by several people.

Yep, if your vehicle is classified as a SUV on your registration, Yucon, Suburban, Tahoe, Forerunner, etc. your are exempt because you are not considered a commercial towing vehicle.
