For whatever reason, I still find it difficult to navigate. It is quicker now, but I'm just having issues compared to Hiltons or even the old school coastal wx.

Just after July 4th it will take another BIG jump in speed as we split the processing and the displaying to seperate servers.

Your Nav issues...
The way it is...is the way it is going to be. I find it pretty easy to get around and with the amount of information supplied I can not dream of an easier way of doing it.

You select the service you wish to use....Sattilite as an Example.....You get a menu with the availible Sats.

(AVHRR, MODIS, GEOS and Composite) These are 4 Different Sats displaying 4 different products at varing resolutions.

You pick the Sat you wish to see (Modis as an Example) and you get a menu of the shots from that Sat and you pick the shot you wish to see. (Click the shot you wish to use) You can also change the color ramp to different temp ranges. (40-70 as an example)

To many choices for some....but right on time once you understand that different Sats make passes at different times of the day.

When I go I want the BEST/LATEST/MOST ACCURATE info that I can get. In order to have that....I want access to all three Sats.

Supermap BLOWS away every other sevice out there as far as accuray is concerned BAR NONE. They might be easy to use....and easy to send you wandering all over the ocean.

Dave....thanks for all your work on the SuperMap. I am a web developer by trade, so I really do understand how much effort you have put into this. I don't know the backend, but this has got to be an enormous undertaking!

I will have to say that I have never actually got the temperature reading to work, and as you know this is probably the number 1 user of the SuperMap. I have tested in FF 2.0.0.14 and IE7. Here are my steps to replicate:

1) Click Satellite and check "Three-day SST composite"
2) Select view date from panel that is displayed on right.
3) Wait for all elements to load.
4) Left click an area on the map.

Outcome:

When I do this, the temperature reading doesn't change. I have also tried to click the "hand" icon to make sure that I am in the right mode. I have sporadially got the temp box to supply a reading using the "Modis" satellite.

Since I don't have a legend telling me what colors correspond to what temp ranges, I can't find a way to get useful temperature data out of SuperMap. What am I missing here? Is this user error?

You are doing everything right except one....You have found one of my weak spots.....the 3 day Composite....

The Temps only partialy work (If you look around up North they will work) and until you brought it up....I had forgotten about it.

The AVHRR, Modis and Geos Temps should work just fine.

The trick is making sure that you STOP the mouse from moving. It is the mouse stopping that triggers the database call for the temp. It takes a second or two. Everything works like that.

If you have more problems...post them up. I can not fix things if I do not know (or remember) they are broken and I am happy to point the way if I can.

Also note that you don't left click to get the temp, simply stop your mouse for a few seconds. This seems to trip up a lot of people.

Dave That may have been why I had some problems, I was using the composite. I will try the others, but it does seem taht it has increased in speed. Again, thanks for your continued hardwork on the SST shots.
