Well after putting a big fat 0 of them in the boat this past weekend I can definately say not the speed that we were going!

Normally 6 knts is about right. What I do is before I put one back into the spread, is I will rig it up and hold the leader over the side, so I can watch the bait "swim". If it dosen't look right and can pull it back in and re-rig.

I've found that speed depends on the day, bait, and fish. I just work my speed up and down till I start getting strikes.

They are all fast fish. Most folks troll at about 6-8 knots. It really is according to the type of baits....sea state....equipment used.

I fish with a guy year before last that we trolling at 14 knots all day and caught a lot of fish. Dolphin and Hoo's.

When I go....6.5 most of the time.

HANG THE BAIT OVER THE SIDE AND SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE GOING THROUGH THE WATER
