I have a '93 Grady, 19ft. I think the fuel sending unit has gone bad, the needle is pegged on E, and yes, I know there is fuel in it. I had this problem before, and had it at Crockers among other things to be fixed. They got it working (not sure exactly what they did), but it's broken once again.
How difficult is it to replace a sending unit? I looked in my manual, and it doesn't really say much about it. Anyone know where I can find info on how to fix it, I've done some Internet searches and can't really find much.

If you have access to it you should be able to just take a few screws out and unhook a couple wires and pull it out. Should be nothing to it. _________________ Tommy Stewart

Like Tommy said, it should be a round looking "lid" with 3 or 4 screws and like 2 wires in it. pull the wires first and make sure they are just not corroded. If that does not work, you can pull the unit and you may be able to move it manually to see it it is working or just stuck in place.
Maybe to save you some time, when you find the access to your sending unit, take the ground wire lose, get A jumper wire and ground it directly to the battery, make sure your gauge goes to full, if it does not, it's not the sending unit it's probably the gauge. Hope this helps.

I've replaced mine twice now. It's five screws, and a rubber gasket. Be careful, as it will only line up ONE way, but be really close to all screw holes lining up in many other configurations. Also, they sell 2 different ones (two that I know of). One model is less that $20.00 and you cut it yourself to fit your tank. The other is around $60.00 and you buy it to fit the depth of your tank. Choose the more expensive one, as the other didn't even last a year in my boat. The second one has lasted over a year this time. Make sure your boat is level and has less than 1/2 tank of gas or it come out of the hole when you remove the old sending unit. The sending unit instructions will say have an empty tank, which would be ideal, but it can be done with some fuel in it. For the down side, everyone tells me that this is a common problem with boats, and they just don't hold up very well, so I've learned to do it myself to save $$ on a simple repair. Good luck. _________________ Bite Me!

It's usually the sending unit. Easy enough to check.....just take the two wires off of the sending unit, hold them together and turn on the key......if the gauge moves, it's the sending unit. _________________ Bite Me!
