NC Beach, Inlet & Waterway Association (NCBIWA) is pleased to announce that, effective August 1, 2006 it has retained Marlowe & Company LLC, a Washington, DC governmental affairs consulting firm to work on securing adequate federal funding for maintenance of North Carolina’s federally-authorized shallow draft inlets and its segment of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
We know that funding for these coastal maintenance projects is important to North Carolina’s coastal communities and thousands of visitors to our coastal region. NCBIWA has made such work a priority for the fiscal year which started July 1. By taking this bold action of securing professionals in Washington to work with our Congressional delegation on a day-in, day-out basis, we hope to see funding levels increase and stabilize. Commercial and recreational boaters need to be able to rely on safe channels that are dredged and marked on a regular basis. Our coastal economy depends on these water resources, along with our beaches, for its very existence.
Marlowe & Company is the only Washington-based governmental affairs consulting firm specializing in water resource projects for local governments. Established in 1984, it currently represents the water resource interests of towns, counties and associations across coastal America, including several in North Carolina.
NCBIWA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, created by the 2005 merger of the North Carolina Shore & Beach Preservation Association, the Alliance for North Carolina Inlets and North Carolina Coastal Communities Coalition. NCBIWA and its members are committed to the sensible management of NC’s coastal waters infrastructure. NCBIWA works to educate federal and state policy makers, seek funding for family beaches, inlets and waterways, and facilitate environmentally sound scientific and engineering solutions to NC’s coastal needs. We strive to be “The One Effective Voice for the North Carolina Coast.â€Â
Funding for this ongoing advocacy effort is being provided from within NCBIWA’s regular operating budget, which is made up of annual memberships, sponsorships and donations from local governments, civic associations, businesses and individuals who care greatly about North Carolina’s coast. For more information on NCBIWA, go to http://www.ncbiwa.org or write to coastal@ncbiwa.org.

Guys....This is excellent news. As some of you know FryingPanTower.Com has been involved in the fight for funding for the Shallow Draft Inlets on North Carolina for several years now. I am glad to hear that we have these folks working on our behalf.
Welcome ncbiwa.........If there is anything that this site and our members can do to help....JUST LET US KNOW!

Thanks Dave.
What we need from our friends at fryingpantower.com more than anything is more members, sponsors and advertisers. Lobbying at the DC level is expensive but we need to do it to have any chance of success.
Our annual conference will be in Carolina Beach on November 13 & 14. The agenda will be largely about inlet and waterway issues. Our Washington lobbyist will be there to update us and answer questions. Our members will get first notice about the details and first chance to register.
To join us and help fund this major Washington lobbying effort, there is a form online at http://www.ncbiwa.org/NCBIWAfishing.pdf
Thanks for any help and support you can provide.
