Went to the show today, met OffShoreBob (very nice guy with cool pirate plugs), and put a deposit down on a Sea Fox 216CC. The package has a 140 Suzuki on it. The salesman told me the cruising speed would be about 30mph and I didn't need a big engine because the trim tabs would bring the bow down "real nice". Do any of you guys think it's really worth the extra either $1,200 or $2,200 (I can't remember which) to go with the 150hp? Is the extra 10hp worth the money?

I would spent the extra to get the 150. It is a different block and resale will be more. Also will have less of a load on the motor and gas milage is about the same. Tell the dealer take they need to put a 4 blade prop on in place of the 3 blade it makes a big difference.Good luck with the new ride.

I have a 230 Sea Fox with a 150 Yamaha. It is a little under powered but still has the stock prop. With a real lite load the boat would run about 46mph top end but now that I have so much junk in it and 4 grown men it tops out about 37mph. What is the dry weight on the 216?

it may be fine for a while don't do what and bring the boat home with a 140 or 150 the extra $$ would be with a 200

lunkerlure is that the gps speed or the speedo? my gps tells me my speedo is about 6-7 mph fast.

That's gps speed with a full load and 4 people. I'm only getting about 4600 rpm's and WOT so when I get a chance I'm going to get a new prop to get a little more speed.

According to their website the dry weight is 2600lbs.
Max HP is 200. The 140 might be a bit small, I would think you would get better cruise #'s out of the 150.
The 150 weighs in at 64 pounds more than the 140.

lunker i have a 3 blade prop and my boat will on a flat day rev all the way to about 6000-6300. but i have only let it do that once or twice

The big differance between the suzuki and the yamaha
is that you will be alot happier if you buy the yamaha.
If you plan on carrying 4 people I'd get a bigger boat.
21 footer with 3 people is hard on 150hp motor,
but do~able.Its better to have too much hp on single motor
applications, I'd drive before I buy, In all configurations.

Dont get fooled by the yamaha suzuki thing Ive got both and both are great. The one thing you mite want to remember is the 150 suzuki is a lot different than just 10 hp. It is a strong running motor.

I beat the snot out of my Suzuki 150, never a problem. I run it hard, just like the Giants all over the cowgirls.

I cant compare it to the Yamaha since I dont own one, but it runs great!

I have the Sea Fox 216cc with a Suzuki 150. I don't think I would want to run the boat with any less horsepower

I agree with Jarte on that. I run a 140 Suzuki on a 1993 17' Grady White and the engine is as reliable and hardworking as the two 250 Yamaha Saltwater Series II engines we run on the other boat.

I realize that both the suzuki & yamaha motors work great!
The reason I suggested that he go Yamaha is because
of the warranty.People I know, That have had to deal with
Suzuki's warranty get jerked around and end up paying extra
to get there motor fixed.I have had to deal with Yamaha
on warranty issues and they stand behind there products.
The suzuki is $500 cheaper, Both have a 6 year warranty
The BIG Differance is how the warranty is handled.
Save $500 now, Give us Thousands later!
