We were headed out of New River Inlet this past weekend and decided to top off the fuel. There was about 20 gallons needed to polish it off by my estimate from a booze cruise the weekend prior (the fuel needle is on the fritz but ater a while you know about what you're burning anyways).
I was sitting there running through some GPS numbers as an abnormally long amount of time had passed for 20-25 gallons to pump. I asked the attendent where we were at and he said 65 gallons. I immediately knew that we had been siphoned as the boat sits on the trailer beside the house when we're not down at the coast. Total fill up was 80 gallons so we were light about 60 (@ $3.89 per equals $233.40 stolen).
Its not going to kill us but its kind of frustrating you know?
We ordered a locking gascap this week.
Just a heads up as I don't see gas getting cheaper over the Summer. |

Thanks. It's too bad really, but I think I will need to get one. How sturdy are the locking gas caps? If someone really wants to get at my 250 gallons when I'm away from the boat, something tells me that the cap won't stop them, and that further damage could be done if they try to pry it loose from the boat. Any thoughts on that? _________________ Mark Kelley

| I'm not sure a locking gas cap would do much good if you have OB's since the thief would only have to unclip the fuel lines at the motors, cut the hose at the clip and then use your hose and primerball to siphon your gas!.....I think a good size rottweiler chained to the trailer is a much better deterent! |

Lost 20 gallons the same way, stopped to top off, and took 27 gallons. Keep mine in fenced, video protected storage in Wilmington. Told the owner, but he said he could not look at a months worth of tape. _________________ Give a man a fish, and feed him for a day,

Cap won't stop them....they just cut the line at the motor and use your bulb to pump it out. _________________ World Cat 270HT..."Bite Doc" |

That's why I always leave mine just about empty when it just sits. I fill her up in the morning on the way to the ramp.
