I have two 7 year old boys and I am hoping that on our vacation next week to be able to put them on their first dolphin.

They have never been "offshore" before, but have been about 7 miles out.

If you had to find one spot, one go to spot to find a dolphin out of Cape Fear River, where would it be?

Does not have to be a big dolphin and I would obviously prefer a bit closer to shore than the tower if possible.

Our fishing plans involve one day trying for dolphin, one for spadefish and flounder and a few evenings in the river mouth slamming the blues and spanish.

Squid, hard to guarantee anything. Inshore of the tower, out of Cape Fear, try the Shark Hole (15 miles) or the Horseshoe (22 miles). You're more likely to catch one at the Horseshoe. The tower is still your best bet (other than the stream).

I would agree on the Tower. I've been taking my boys out there for the last two years ( 8 & 10). Nice thing, is if the top water action is slow they have a good time pulling up grunts, etc. from the bottom.

What dates will you be down??
