Hey guys I know this might seem like a stupid question, but for inshore fishing in say 2-3 feet of water does it matter if I use the Cajun fishing line, its red and I know once you get to like 10-15ft of water its invisible but at 2-3 ft does it matter?
Thanks

| I don't think it would make any difference one way or another if the fish are biting. If they seem to be spooked by the red line, you could tie on a short leader of flourocarbon. |

If your going to be fishing in that shallow of water consistently, better to go ahead and add a fluro leader, the red is visible that shallow. Once you fish deeper than around 5 feet then the red starts to "disappear" due to the gradual loss of the visible light spectrum, for clear skinny water go with the best presentation that would include a fluro leader. Of course that gets more expensive, but short leaders are all you need, so you wont use much of it.

| What's the deal with the red hooks & lines anyway? It disapiers & attracts fish at the same time!!! Bleeding red hooks that they can't see as it sinks! Somebody is rich now!!! I understand the spectrum part but????????What the FISH is going on here mates? |

I have heard from several people that trolled last year the (new color) Yo-Zuri HD Fluorocarbon Disappearing Pink works really well. It looks like anything with a tint of red in it will give good results. We used Cajun red with red trebles on our King rigs and it works ok. We use the Cajun on the downriggers but use Hi-Vis colors on our other rods, so that we can see it when making turns. I have never used any thing but clear line with clear fluorocarbon leader on inshore and have always had good luck, but I'm going to try the new Yo-Zuri DP leader for kicks and giggles this year. That is if I ever get a job and have money to buy some. _________________ Garry

marketing scheme for sure. When we dive, we can still see a red snapper. Yes they do look silver, but so do the silver snapper. Once you know what you are looking at, you can even tell what shade of red he will be when he hits the surface.
Stick with the clear stuff. If you have having a hard time seeing the line the the color is fine, but like BIG E says, red hooks and red line can't both work! |

Very interesting, this raises a few questions in my mind. Remember those pre-sabiki bait catchers that looked like a row of chicken wire with a red ribbon run through them. Now I wonder what it was about them that attracked bait?
Now a real question for a diver; Have you ever taken a piece of mono-line in various colors down into the water to see the changes and if you didn't know it was there could you still see it? I guess what I'm asking is have you ever run into line while diving a wreck that you didn't see, if so did you bring a piece up to check the color? _________________ Garry

Good points one and all, Divnnc maybe if you get the time, next time you are going diving why dont you try a little experiment and see if you can take a few lines down of different colors and see what works and what does'nt. If you are using red hooks to attract the fish then whats up with the red line supposedly disappearing, thats my question.
