FryingPanTower.Com cares about your security very much while on the internet.

Installed on this site is a set of security scripts that block all sort of things. One of the things that they block is "Harvesters". A harvester is a small program that is installed by these toolbars and other such Mal-Ware that you can download for free. What they do is spider a site and pick off e-mail addresses to send "Home" and that is why you get TONS of CRAP e-mail.

We block about 10-15 of these a day. They are for the most part nice folks that got fooled into installing something that should not have. Then I get these E-Mails about "You blocked me......." I write them back and tell them what is going on and you should read some of the replies. You would think I just told them they have herpes or something.

Here is what you should do EVERY WEEK to every computer that is connected to the internet...

Uninstall any "Tool Bars"....
Uninstall any program you do not know....
Run anti-virus FULL scan....
If you do not have Anti-Virus....See the FREE online scan in the bottom right had block on this site.
Run Ad-Aware repeatedly until it comes up with no "issues"

You should do these things every week....for your sake and everyone else's....

This concludes this public service announcement!

Dave,

Your living in another world, LOL.......Most ppl dont even know how the internet works, let alone what adware, spyware, malware and all that other "stuff" is......LOL

Pandascan and Ad-aware are good places to start, fending off the internet leeches is a never ending battle, most ppl dont have the time thats why those types of programs proliferate on the net. Cool

BWB,
One of the E-Mails that I call "Hate Mail" I got not long ago was real funny. This guy had 4-5 Harvesters installed.....we blocked him. He asked why...I wrote back telling him why....He writes me back raising cain that he travels all over the internet to all these other sites and noone blocks him so it has to be my programming that is at fault. Instead of listening what I was telling him....he wished to be part of the problem. He did not care that he was responcible for sending everyone e-mail on every site he visits tons of SPAM.

IMHO.....It is not only the users....It is the webmasters fault as well. IF all webmasters used blocking tools that are freely availible in the world we could put a BIG dent in the spam trade. Why? Beacause if you could get go to the sites you wanted to....you would take the time to fix it. As it stands there are a handful of people like me that try their best to protect their members from this kind of crap and instead of being told thank you for our troubles we get complaints instead.

Couple of hints for you....
Any time you post your E-Mail anywhere on the interent....post it in this format....
ask(at)me.com

or ask&me.com

this way scripts can not auto add you to their database.

Also...NEVER open any SPAM e-mail with pictures. You know the ones that come up bloack until you hit the bar at the top. Why? Because this is one way they check for valid E-Mail. When you hit the bar to load the pictures for the E-Mail....it phones home to get the pictures....AND tell them XYZ is a valid e-mail address. So now you get MORE spam.

Dave

I've also had lots of success with Spybot Search and Destroy at removing lots of nasties. It's also a free program.
