CURRENT REPORT.... SWANSBORO TO MHC... The fish are here... Aboard FISH'N4LIFE this past week we've been pounding out the waters both inside up the rivers, around the sounds, along the ICW, and along the beach and out to 15miles... here's what's up.
Up white oak river, newport river, and queens creek the bite is on the reds and southern flounder. Work the creek mouths and creeks with spinner baits.... replace the curly tail with a berkley gulp and its on! There have been reds up to 30in. and we've had nice flounder on the same baits. There are lots of bluefish moving through the connecting channels between the inlets and the ICW during the falling tide. We're working yozuri crystal minnows, leadhead/grubs, and sooon topwater baits on them. In the main channels, especially around the bridges and the mouth of the river there are grey trout in the deeper water to be had on stingsilvers and specrigs.... (tip them with fishbites or fresh shrimp). Along the oyster rocks in the river as well as along the ICW there are southern flounder to be had which have made there migration down river with much of the bait. Live bait on carolina rigs or jigs with Berkley gulp baits will be best... Along the beaches we're still catching lots of reds from 20 to 30+in. on jigs with plastics or Berkley gulp baits. Along the nearshore livebottoms and AR's there are scattered Bonito, Flounder, lots of seabass and some other bottom dwellers.... There are plenty of sheepshead around the nearshore AR structure but you'll need to anchor directly over the top of the structure and fish crabs, sea- urchins, or sand fleas just off the structure... it helps if you crush a bunch of mussels and send them down in a chum tube... Anyway... there's plenty of action going on! Lots of luck fish'n ....
Capt. Jeff Cronk...
