Made my first offshore trip for Dolphin of the year on Saturday with Rob aboard and it didn't take long before we were catching fish. The ocean was sloppier than predicted, so it took a little longer to reach our destination, but it was well worth it. The plan was to start in the 20 mile range and work our way offshore, but we didn't have to go any further.
Once we got all five lines in the water, it wasn't long before a small Dolphin lit up in the spread and slammed a daisy chain pulled in the prop wash. That was the only small fish of the day. Between 0700 and 1030, we had steady action with some nice Dolphin. All hit ballyhoo with skirts, but they all hit different colors, not one color stood out today. We went 5 for 5 on the Dolphin and also landed 4 King Macerel. We released all the Kings to be caught again, but the Dolphin came home with us.
Call today to book your offshore or inshore trip.

Smokinjoe,
I like to run ballyhoo with sea witch skirts or islanders. I usually run a spread of 4 to 7 rods depending on sea conditions. Blue/white, pink/white, red/black, chartruese are all good colors. I like to put out a variety of colors and see if they are keying in on any particular color that day and switch over if that is the case. I usually troll between 4 and 7 knots. I like to see my baits skip out of the water occasionally. Also, don't forget to run a naked bait as they often will produce strikes. Fish a couple of baits right behind the boat and stagger the rest of your baits out from there and run one way back.
Hope this helps.

Smokinjoe,
Your welcome. Glad to help. Let me know how you do.
Kelly,
We were using medium sized ballyhoo. I wouldn't use anything larger unless you are heading for the stream. I always carry at least 4 dozen, cause you never know when you are really going to get into the fish. You can keep most frozen on ice and thaw and rig as neccessary. If you don't use them, throw them back in the freezer when you get home (the ones you didn't thaw) and you'll have them for next time. _________________ Capt. Brent Stanley

Kelly,
other than the wildlife ramp at wb, you have Scotts Hill Marina (pay), CB wildlife ramp, state park at CB (pay), and the wildlife ramp at Surf City. That's about it unless you can find someone with private ramp and get access, but that's hard to do. _________________ Capt. Brent Stanley
