Hoo Hunter,
Thanks for the articale on "SAVE OUR POGIES".
Will be sending P.Pate an email this morning.
If Ernest Hemmingway were still around, I bet he would change his hunt
from U-boats to Pogie Boats.
Are there any decals available like the one at the top of the article? If so where can I get a hand full.
F.P.T. now has 1216 members, that should mean that Mr. Pate should recieve atleast 1006 emails from our membership.

Baby pogies are thick in the topsail sound, hope that
weather conditions don't kill a bunch of them,
like fran did.Washing all that junk in the sound,
is really bad.

capt560,
You are welcome to present your opinion on this board....whether I agree with you or not. I also welcome good conversation on this topic. I have asked several people from "Save The Pogies" to come here and debate this topic with me....but I can not seem to get them interested.

If you happen to know any on them...PLEASE ask them to come here and discuss this with us.

You can see my writings and feelings on this topic in this thread.

I have been fishing the brunswick county beaches for the last 40+ yrs. in the last couple of years I have noticed the pogies haven't been very plentiful. I haven't been able to find them at all this summer, I have had to use frozen cigars or ballyhoo, and whatever I could jig up. I have had pretty good luck tho.
Now I am not defending OIFC or Brant or Rube, I don't have anything against commercial fishing, netting or trawling, but I feel like there does need to be some reform and changes to ensure that our children and grandchildren will have a chance to enjoy fishing and catching themselves some to eat.

Greetings Dave,
I have talked to Brent and I really wish we could have an open discussion of this matter.

My whole point comes down to 2 things....The status of the Stock and the Historical use of the fishery.

I have not seen ONE piece of science that says Beufort Fisheries harms the stock in any way shape or form.....and I might say I have looked. They have been netting pogies in these water since 1919. Long before you or I ever got going here. Who is to say that his .50 a pound is more important than the 2.00 a pound someone else can make off of them.

You want to ban out of state boats from these waters? I am with you....No problem! Omega Proteins needs to stay right where they are. But I will not do anything to harm the historical way of life of any of NC's commercial fisherman....including Beufort Fisheries.

They are Killing the fishery....We need to do something. All I can say is show me the science! and I will jump on board with you.

That is the problem with the entire "Save the Pogies" movement....the science says the fishery is fine!

NOTE: Just like I said in the other thread....You are WELCOME to disagree with me!

Just be polite!

Capt. 560

If you go to www.saveourpogies.com you will find all the info on what they are trying to do about this matter. You can join the battle with a donation to the cause and they will give you a T shirt and a sticker. I have mixed feelings about this subject and could talk about it all day, but to me being a new salt rather than a old salt I dont have much knowledge on how many pogies there is and use to be. But it seems like takeing to much of one thing could be bad. Why dont they fish there on waters? And like capt dave said where the science? I also have seen first hand that when they come and net, it is difficult to find bait around holdens beach and ocean isle. My 2 cents, Wayne
