| I have a 21 ft CC and wondering how far out the gulfstream is. Would love to take it out. But my lack of local knowledge is limited. I usually go out of Southport and fish around the shoals or Bald Head Island. Hopefully this will be my summer to learn the area since I hope to be in country this summer. Never know though, will just have to wait and see. But anyways any help would be greatly apreciated. Thanks Alan |

The Gulfstream moves and isn't always in exactly the same place, but from Southport, it's going to be a 60-70 mile run each way approximately.
Have you checked out the I-Map? If not, poke around there. It's on the left side of the page...third item below "features". You can measure the distances to the various locations. You can actually see the Gulfstream. You can also use it to find some places that might be better for you, that are not so far offshore. What type of fishing are you looking to do? _________________ Gary Dixon

Sounds like you're in the same boat I am... (no pun intended) I've got a 17-foot CC but I want to fish the stream. 60 miles is a looong way to go on a boat that size. I've done 25 on my 17' boat and its a long enough ride. But if its any encouragement, I saw a 21' boat on the entry list for the Big Rock last year.
Anyway, I've found a lot of success locally with fish closer to shore, be it Spanish Mackerel, small Kings, small Dolphin, Bluefish, or anything else edible. Have you done any near shore fishing in the area?

| it has been hit or miss. i have only been out a few times this year, i am in the army and am gone alot so i have to fish in between deployments. but hopefully i will be around for must of the summer. Yeah i can understand how that would be a long ride in a 17ftr. and i can sympathize, i grew up in florida with a 17ftr and went everywhere in that thing. but i also had the bahamas blocking most of the swells. hope to talk with you again sometime. thanks for the info.....alan |

haha I think you're the first person who hasn't questioned my sanity for going to 25-mi rock in a 17-footer. What part of NC are you fishing out of?
