It's time to replace my Danforth anchor because it's gotten really rusty. I thought I'd just replace it with the same thing, but before I do, I'm probably going to open a can of worms and ask the much debated question. Which anchor is best? Most of my anchoring is done offshore. I know that the Danforth style anchors don't hold very well in rocky bottoms and that could be a major dissadvantage for Grouper Gropin'. What would you buy?

I personally like a Danforth style anchor for what most of us do. Just remember a few things while you are rigging the new anchor and you will be a lot happier in the long run:

Use plenty of heavy chain to keep from having a sharp angle on your road and better holding power. (25' of 1/2" or 5/8" chain is a lot better than 20'of 1/4"; for that mater 20' of the larger is better than the same length 1/4")

With a Danforth or similar style anchor use Dave's break away method so that when you hang it up on something you don't lose the anchor, chain and a lot of rope. Right LA?

Not one of the things but another anchor related thought; use a round buoy to retrieve the anchor and chain, your back will love you.
