4/21/06 Another trip with Chip and Mary onboard before they head back to Jersey... These guys just can't get enough! We fished about two hours here in Swansboro land 10 red drum with the largest at 26 1/2in. along with the smallest trout I've ever caught on a hook... the bait is 4in. long and look at the trout below in the pics... We moved on and picked up 125 clams for them to take back north as well as a handful of sharks teeth and called it an afternoon. Capt. Jeff Cronk- FISH'N4LIFE CHARTERS- 910-236-7512
4/22/06 Hit the water this morning for a couple hours to sweat out drinks I had out at the Emerald Club friday night... I had Lauren Costa onboard for some luck. Scouted out 4 areas in the river and found reds on all places. We fished about 3hours and managed to land 11 red drum with the largest at 28in. and 9lbs. Also hooked one spec close to a pound. Fish'n is great... Still have a few afternoon trips available for this month and May for anyone wanting to get out on the water and catch some fish after work. Still some open dates avail. for May/June to target flounder, reds, sheepshead, BIG spanish, kings, Bonito, and more! Book now for prime dates as they are filling fast. Awesome report! How much does an afternoon trip cost? We are on a super tight budget, but I sure would love to at least see Mike go on a trip.
Can drum be caught from the shore? If so, what would you use for bait? Any special rigging?
If these question sound a tad ignorant, we are newly from California and like everything else, fishing is a whole different ball of wax here.

| Thanks Bob, we caught them on spinner baits and jerk baits in the shallow bays here in swansboro... I like the spinner baits and jerk baits early in the season with all of the terd moss in the bays... these two baits suspend off the bottom a little keeping the junk off the hook... |

Jo, my rates are posted on my website... ( the link from here to my site is wrong... sends you to a diff. capt.'s site... Capt. Dave just built the banner for me and it still needs to be tweeked... but my charter website is located at www.nccharterfishing.com go check it out... also, you can catch the reds from shore but the best bet for those without a boat would be to fish for them around the points of the inlets and jettys in the surf... i'd throw a 1/4 to 1/2oz jighead with a gulp minnow into the white water just off the sand near along the shoals at the mouth of your local inlet... As far as open dates feel free to give me a call... I target the reds all year, including winter.

Things always need a little tweeking here in CyberLand! Thanks for the link. That's going to have to be something saved for after we get the house. Since you do it all year, I might have to aim for a birthday present.
We are currently living with our daughter on MCAS so we have a point into the New river about half a mile from here. There were tons of blue crabs out there yesterday but Mike and the kids stayed out there and had a blast even though they didn't bring in anything. I think cause we were using shrimp? Lots of strickes, just nothing that stayed on the hook.
We also met a guy with a cast net. I went on one cast net shrimping trip as a teenager and remembered loving it. Not something we do on the west coast though. Anyhow, I've been wanting to learn a little more about it since I've seen the nets in the stores up here. This guy showed Mike how to cast the net and let him give it a few tosses as well. It was great. Guess we will be adding a cast net to our equipment list... javascript:emoticon(' ') |
