Our fishing charter trips out of Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach have been doing well and we have been catching everything from red drum, flounder, sharks, amberjacks, black drum, bluefish, spanish, and king mackerel to name a few. We have also had some very nice catches of gray trout. They are here early and I hope it means we will have an early fall. The water temp is already dropping a little and the best fishing of the year is right around the corner. Now is the time to book your fall fishing trip!
INSHORE: The redfish and flounder are biting well on Berkley Gulp jerkbait’s and the 3 inch shrimp. I like the white or new penny colors for clear water and the rootbeer for the darker water. The speckled trout action has also been steady. Try a jerk bait or a popping cork with a Gulp shrimp under it for best results. Live bait is plentiful right now. Target the docks with live bait and don’t forget to tighten down the drag!
OFFSHORE: The offshore action has been off and on lately. The king mackerel are doing well, but we have not ran into any large ones yet and most of them are pretty far off the beach. Look for them to come closer in as the water cools just a bit more. There is tons of bait on the beach right now and we should have a GREAT fall king mackerel season. The spanish are still biting well on the beach and we are getting most of them sight casting to the schools. There are a lot of small ones mixed in so make sure you measure them. The shark action is still going strong and the amberjack’s are in the 20 mile range. I am still hearing of a few sail’s being caught but I have not been lucky enough to get a hook in one. The near shore wrecks and reefs are on fire with gray trout and flounder. Live finger mullet, stingsilver’s and Gulp seems to work the best. When fishing these near shore wrecks always put out a top line or a float rig with a big live bait on it. We picked up a nice king for an added bonus the other day doing this.
September, October, and November offer the BEST fishing North Carolina has to offer. If you have been waiting……NOW IS THE TIME TO GO FISHING!
