Gentlemen,
I have fished the waters of the Carolina Coast for nearly 25 years from the piers of Topsail, Carolina Beach to the Gulf Stream. Have fished King Mack tourneys since 2005, and I have never had a day on the water like yesterday (Sunday 9, December).
We headed out on THE FIGHTING LADY, SECOND TO NONE CHARTERS, Capt Shane.
Just as Capt Shane, posted on the website, we showed up at the Morehead City Waterfront with the hopes of hooking some Giant Blue Fin Tuna.
At 0530 we hit a left turn and headed toward the inlet, boats were stacked up in the turning basin, reminded me of a check out on tourney day. Just as we pulled through the inlet, Capt Shane showed us an awesome move, to knock off some tailing boats and it worked beautifully.
We got to the spot early (one of my inshore king spots) and had only one boat off the port side. I was still in awe of the huge tackle and thought to myself this is no King Mack gear.
Sure enough, at 0650 Capt Shane pulled us through a huge pod of porpoise and the first line screamed off, I was amazed to see the 200lb. Test scream off, after about a 45 minute struggle with the fish, taking turns on the reel, the monster came to the boat. I could not believe the size of this fish. I was amazed, 89 inches and approx. 450 lbs.
The round of high fives were going around and we deployed two more lines as Rick and Don prepped the decked fish, sure enough Capt Shane was working to give room to another boat that was hooked up, and the Penn began to scream. We had another monster on and it was not even 0800.
After another round of 3 of us cranking and fighting the fish, the 2nd monster came to the boat. 79” , nearly 400 lbs.
We were amazed and the boats began converging on us like tournament guys fishing a hot bite for a money fish.
In one of the classiest moves I have seen by a charter Capt, at 0900 with nearly 1,000 lbs of tuna in the boat, Capt Shane decided to head in to the dock. “He said, I am not going to be greedy boys.” We were on them, and I believe could have put one more in the boat to limit 3.
I rarely fish charter boats, but Capt Shane told us as long as we caught a Kill fish, the trip would be of no cost to the anglers, with a 89” 450 lb. BFT, and a 79” 400 lb BFT, I think the guys will get a nice pay out for the Capt and Mate.
Great crew on the boat, Rick (Ret) Navy Corpsman, and Capt Shane, awesome Capt, taught us all how to catch these monsters.

I have GOT to give BFT fishing a try. Too bad I don't have the equipment to do it myself. If I did I'd probably lose my job.

Sweat shirt weather this am and slick ass calm so I'm thinking there's no way we are going to get a bite. We heard of a bite down the beach yesterday so down the beach we go With Joel and Scott onboard. About 0700 the stb planner does something funky and line slowly peels off the reel with 35 lbs drag, WTF. I push up the drag and start to cranking. Something is messed up, Shane stop. As we are getting it closer to the boat I see it spinning like a king but the tail is wrong. Slap bam a 15 lb grouper in the box. Put it back out and off we go. About 0800 I'm looking out the back, like I always do, HOLY SHIT! BFT:S 0700. We circle around for about a half hour, I have NEVER caught tunas when I have seen them air out so I went up to the bridge to shot the Shit with Shane. We saw a school of dolphin and Shane says," I wish they could show me where they are. About 15 seconds later the deep planer starts the BFT SCREAM!! We've Been listening to how the NORTHERN boys do the job and employed it this year. You just have to have confidence in your gear I guess. Even with the hammer down it took us 45 mins to stab him. Once that was done we got 2 lines back in the water while I was getting the deck ready to bring him onboard. We brought her on and I got to cutting. I had my rt arm all the way back to her ASS Hole when I hear the Penn scream again. Damn, is someone messing with me? Don the owner of the boat was standing at the tail of the fish when the rigger popped and the rod WHOPPED him right up side the head. He turned to yell at the person that swung the chair when the reel kept ripping. I pulled my arm out to see what was going on, SHIT! HE"S ON. Glad we only had 2 lines out. I tripped the planer on the other line before they had it cranked in so when he got it cranked to the rubber band I had to work the scissors in to cut them. Anyway back to the fight, the fish blistered off 300 yds of line then stopped. We cranked him right below the boat. We are all thinking short fish so I wasn't going to get the POON ready WHEN GOOD BYE HE RIPPS OUT 200 Yds AT 45LBS Drag. WELL MAYBE HES A KILL FISH. We've just decked a fish that needs to be put on ice and get ready for another. Just how good can our luck be, hahaha!. Well after a few turns on the handle and a few in and outs Shane stuck the POON in his head. DONE! We put the mess back and drag to no avail. This is more than one can hope for. Slick ass calm AND 2 BFT's on the deck. I guess I need to get Laid right before We go out again from now on I'm gunna make sure I get it again in the am, can't mess up a good thing. Joel and Scott it was a pleasure to have you aboard Ya'll did a great job. I can't wait to see the video Joel got.

GOD I LOVE THIS JOB!!!

Capt Shane, Rick,
Hit me up on the site or e-mail if you have an opening from now through the holidays. Gladly try and bring some luck again, and help with cost.

Thanks again for the experience.
