What frustrates Magic Stik Fishing Team?

Well, let me start by saying our fishing team is fairly new to this arena. Having started our team in 2005, we are quickly learning that this organization is a fantastic one to be a part of. Of course, no one is perfect, you cannot please everyone, and there will always be some pitfalls to every organization. Anyway, we have had nothing but good to say about the SKA during our time here. We set out with the vision of a team with good morals and ethics so that others could look up to us as a team. Seeing the future that this sport is headed, the emergent “NASCAR on water,” we are quickly striving to be the ideal SKA members.
I was very glad that you were able to vent some things on your recent column, “From the Helm- What Ticks Me Off?” It is good that you were to get those things off of your chest, and we are glad that you are taking comments on what our own pet peeves are. First of all, let me say that the most annoying thing about the SKA that we have seen in our timeframe here, is that the SKA National Championship is not rotated between the states involved. We think that it should rotate every single year to a different location, satisfying more of the members needs. It does not seem that hard to figure out. I would not be scared to say that at least 75% or more of the members would attest to a rotating Championship event location. Kingfishconnection.com would probably be more than willing to let this be a polled question to its members. Requirement? Hmmm…..I missed that one in the SKA rule book. “If you qualify, you have an obligation to the other teams in your Division to participate [in the Nationals].” Does the SKA not take the next qualifying team if a team does not participate in the Nationals? Maybe not, but either way increased participation would be a direct result of a rotating venue. One year a team would know that the Big Dance was coming to their area, instead of them always having to travel several hundreds of miles away. I think that this would increase their odds of traveling to a site that was further away, knowing that in a given year it was coming soon to their own backyard. Also, this team would have the “home field advantage” every certain year when the event was in their area. I know that there is much more in tournament planning that just deciding on location, but Biloxi must be giving some great incentives for the SKA to keep having the tournament location there.
As an aside, we do thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to this fine organization. I am sure that it is not easy, and that it takes many, many, hours to turn ideas on paper into the exciting tournament competitions that we all get to enjoy. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We’ll see you again this season, as we are not deterred away for any reason, and will always continue to support the organization that we all hold so dear.
