Went to Brown's Inlet on Saturday, water looked good. However, I did not go out. Does anyone have some info on using this inlet or should I stick to New River.
Thanks |

Gamegetter, I head out of Browns every weekend. Though one of my New River Buddy's disagree, this is a great inlet to pass through. The only key is to stay 2/3 to left going out and the oppisite coming in.(Look in the photo galary under inlets and you will see)
Dead low tide is not an issue as long as seas are not rough and you are going slow. Don't speed out it like you do at NR. I have never seen it lower that 12 feet. However on the lunar tide a few weeks ago, Liquid Addiction recorded 6 feet and bumped bottom all the way in. I told Steve I think he was too far over because I just came through with no problem. Watch you depth finder and it will be a peice of cake. I have gone out this inlet many years just cause it close to my place in Hubert and I hate Bogue.
Only other worry is those darn jet skis. But hey if you have an older boat like mine, get 'em wet and out of your way. _________________ Brandon Toole

I'll actually let you return the favor and teach me how to get down the river from Dudley's to Stella. _________________ Brandon Toole

Not sure if you are familiar with the Marine access ramp at Freemans Creek. But is basicaly across the way. Can't beach there now b/c you will get run off by Marines. But you can still pass through as long as it hasn't shifted much over the winter. It is closing up some due to the drop in traffic through. _________________ Brandon Toole

I fish it to the breakers in my little boat and though I always run NRI in my big boat I have always said it stayed deeper than NRI at least that far with no dredging! I have seen several big boats roll out of Brown's but I always figured NRI is closer and I was concerned about how my insurance would cover me if I totally screwed up in an unmarked inlet. _________________ World Cat 270HT..."Bite Doc" |
